I can’t believe this is happening. The world is going crazy, maybe half of them. I just heard this news from radio this morning that Nazi Germany invaded Poland, Japanese invasion of China and France declared war with Germany. My parents passed away when I was 1 because of the World War and now, it seems like there’s gonna be another war in this world.I hope Hong Kong can get out of one of those brutal wars. Last year, China was invaded by Japanese and that’s why I applied my college application in Hong Kong for my safety. I really don’t want to be a victim for this war like my parents. These brutal wars made my life miserable and I don’t even remember how my parents look like. Today’s breaking news gave me a flashback of how I got here, Hong Kong. I was raised in Foster House from age 2 to 20 in China and few years ago, I moved to Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong for my college. I made up my mind that I’m going to live a brand new life, forget about my sad life in foster house....Anyways, the news from Europe really made my roommates and other friends in my school nervous. We were talking about this issue all day and teachers wanted us to discuss about it.
December 25 1941
I had been busy lately because of my midterms at college and there were some crazy things going on outside of the country. Few days ago, a day after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the Japanese Empire launched an attack on our country. However, Canadian, british, Indian soldiers were ready to fight against the Japanese Empire and supported Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Crops on the Japanese 21st, 23rd and the 38thRegiment. I was so scared even though the war lasted only for eighteen days. My school closed and I had to stay at my house for my safety. Today, Hong Kong ended up surrendered at the Japanese headquarters. How terrible is this? It’s Christmas today and everyone is hurt and some of them lost their family members due to this war. Wars are just terrible and immoral. During this war, everytime I get out of my house, all I see is people looking for their family members and children’s crying looking for their parents. I thought the World War II is not going to affect Hong Kong and that’s why I didn’t drop out of college and stayed in Hong Kong. I thought it would be better to stay here than my home town in China. I saw a canadian soldier walking by this morning and I asked his name. His name was Brandon Jones and he was a lot younger than me. He said he’s only a senior in high school. I never knew that soldiers from foreign countries are this young. I felt really bad that they have to fight for this war even though they volunteered to become soldiers.

I guess the World War II is dominated by Japanese Empire. Japanese took over East Asia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dutch, and Philippine. I mean this is CRAZY. World War II really made Japanese advance and paved a way to become superpower. Maybe Japanese will be as powerful as Russia and U.S. After Japanese success at Pearl Harbor, they gained confidence and attacked some weak countries continuously. Of course after the “Black Christmas”, when Hong Kong surrendered at Japanese, Japanese occupation of Hong Kong began. Japanese reconstructed the government and private facilities and made profits. Life quality became worse under Japanese rule. We are only allow to buy 0.24kg of rice perday and we need a rationing license to buy oil, flour, sat and sugar. Obviously, I couldn’t have enough food to eat than before. This sucks! I don’t get why they even bother to make these rules.

Well, World War II is officially over because Japanese finally surrendered. Today, I saw this news article about Surrender of Japan occured, which means end of World War II! This also means Hong Kong is no longer under Japanese Empire! Every countries around the world is celebrating today and I saw this picture of Allied military personnel in Paris celebrating the Japanese surrender. The main reason of why Japan fell is United States atomic bomb was drop on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and killed most of the population in that area. I saw this british soldier kissing to his girlfriend and celebrating end of World War II. I can’t believe the war is over!!! Now I’m back in school to finish my year in college! Finally!
